Communication Series: Navigating Unscripted Moments in Job Interviews – With Improv!

  • Organizer: PhD Network
  • Venue: Theater Lab Space, 334 Ryder Hall

Join us for a highly interactive workshop to learn improvisational (improv) techniques that will assist you in improving your interviewing and communication skills. No prior theater or improv experience is necessary.

Engage with fellow attendees in a supportive and fun environment to:

  • Develop comfort with unexpected questions and awkward moments in job interviews. Some employers will intentionally ask unexpected questions to see how you respond.
  • Practice using your verbal, vocal, and visual channels of communication
  • Apply improv strategies to enhance communication skills

Participants should expect to participate in improv comedy exercises with attendees in a supportive and fun environment. Breakfast will be served.

This workshop will be led by Jake Livengood, Sr. Assistant Director of Graduate Student Career Services at MIT. Jake partners with graduate students at MIT for career and professional development and has worked in higher education since 2002 as an instructor, career advisor and administrator. He received the MIT Infinite Mile Award for Innovation and Creativity for developing and facilitating improv workshops to help with training and professional development. He is a graduate of the Improv Asylum Training Center in Boston's North End.

Special thanks to the Northeastern Theater Department for generously providing the Theater Lab space and equipment for this event.
