Implicit Bias and Microaggressions in the Classroom

  • Organizer: Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research
  • Venue: 215 Snell Library

RSVP

While we have a desire to foster learning environments that encourage deep engagement, the implicit biases that surface in the classroom or in curricular materials can present challenges for teaching and learning. Implicit biases are unconscious and influence our interpretations, actions, and decisions. Sometimes they manifest themselves in the form of microaggressions. In this session, we will explore the relationship between implicit bias and microaggressions, and consider strategies for addressing microaggressions when they occur in the classroom.

For Future Faculty Program participants, this workshop series fulfills the “Diversity and Inclusion” requirement.
