Location: Amgen Massachusetts Site, Cambridge MA
About Amgen: Amgen is one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies. Amgen is a values-based company, deeply rooted in science and innovation to transform new ideas and discoveries into medicines for patients with serious illnesses.
LEADERs Opportunity: This graduate studentposition is within the Pivotal Attribute Sciences Group and is focused on exploring structure-function relationships of glycan structures in monoclonal antibodies. Fc glycosylation of IgG molecules modulates their effector function activities and pharmacokinetics. In-depth understanding of these functional activities are important for design and successful development of antibody-based therapeutics. Many aspects of glycan structure and distribution within individual molecules are not well understood despite significant efforts in this area. This position will collaborate with scientists within Attribute Sciences and other functions to design and execute experiments aimed at characterization of glycan architecture by using advanced liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods and correlate the results with functional activity data. In addition to learning cutting edge analytical techniques, this position will also offer opportunities to becomefamiliar with process development workflows in the pharmaceutical industry.
Research focused: elucidation of glycan architecture relationships with divergent effector function activities in IgG molecules
Academic disciplines considered: PhD Program Aligned with Analytical Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Required:Strong background in analytical chemistry, highly motivated self-starter, team player with excellent communications skills.
Competencies Preferred / Required: Expertise in chromatographic separations is required. Experience with mass spectrometry is highly beneficial
