The PhD Network Welcomes You to the New Academic Year!

Dear Northeastern PhD Students,

Since welcoming everyone to the PhD Network in July, I have enjoyed meeting you and learning about your research and other educational activities here at Northeastern. Our PhD Conversations in July were a big success and I want to thank the many PhD students who joined in.  These conversations around professional development, research and academic supports, and experiential education helped inform our planned programming for this fall.  I encourage everyone to visit the PhD Network website, which has been updated to inform you about programming and the many activities and resources applicable to PhD students.

I’m pleased to share with you the following initiatives to support your PhD journey:

  • The Fall 2017 PhD Pop-Up to be held September 13 from 5 – 7pm on Centennial Common is an opportunity for you to network with fellow PhD students from across Northeastern, meet with University leaders, and learn about the many resources available to PhD students.  RSVP here and remember to bring two IDs: your Husky ID to enter the event and a valid government ID (such as a passport) if you intend to drink alcohol at the event.
  • A new integrated calendar featuring activities for PhD students.  This calendar includes consolidated information about activities across Northeastern and opportunities offered by organizations and partners beyond Northeastern’s campus.  Watch the events page for upcoming activities listed by topic.
  • A directory of resources available to PhD students that go beyond academic, research, education, and career and includes supports for lifestyle and wellbeing.  This is where you can find information about the recently announced care.com resource as well as the myriad of resources to support community, diversity, health, and safety.

Finally, if you are a returning PhD student supported by an Stipended Graduate Assistantship (SGA) during the last academic year, and will be away from campus during the Fall 2017 for an internship or other educational activity, your Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP) will be covered for the full year.  However, you must complete the NUSHP Coverage Request form and submit it with your research advisor’s and Department Chair’s signatures before September 15th in order for coverage to apply.

Best wishes for a productive academic year.  I look forward to our continued conversations and to seeing you on the 13th at the PhD Pop-Up event.

Regards,

Sara Wadia-Fascetti
