Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting
Each year, the Academy Nicholl screenwriting competition awards fellowships to amateur screenwriters. Fellowship winners are invited to participate in awards week ceremonies and seminars, receive individualized Academy member mentorship and are expected to complete at least one original feature film screenplay during their Fellowship year.

Up to five $35,000 fellowships are awarded each year to promising new screenwriters.
Eligibility
- An entrant’s total, lifetime earnings for motion picture and television writing may not exceed US$25,000 before the end of the competition. This limit applies to compensation for motion picture and television writing services as well as for the sale of (or sale of an option on) screenplays, teleplays, stage plays, books, treatments, stories, premises and any other source material.
- Entrants must be 18 or older at the time of entry.
- Current Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governors, current Nicholl committee members, and current employees and the immediate families of these individuals are not eligible. Current Academy members are not eligible.
- For the 2022 competition, a single entrant or writing team may submit a maximum of ONE script. Under no circumstances may an entrant or writing team submit different versions or multiple copies of the same script or submit multiple scripts. Doing so may result in all of their entries being disqualified. Each writer, whether a sole author or member of a collaborative writing team, may enter no more than ONE script.
