American Academy in Rome
For over a century, the AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME has awarded the Rome Prize to support innovative and cross-disciplinary work in the arts and humanities. Rome Prize Fellowships include a stipend, room and board, and an individual work space at AAR’s eleven-acre campus in Rome.
Recipients of a full-term Rome Prize Fellowship are invited to Rome for approximately eleven months. Half-term fellowships (lasting about 5-months) are offered in Design. Applicants in Architecture, Historic Preservation & Conservation, and Landscape Architecture have a choice of either full- or half-term fellowships. Pre-doctoral applicants in the field of art history may apply for a two-year fellowship.
The deadline for applications is 1 November. Applications will also be accepted between 2 November and 15 November for an additional fee (see below for details).

Stipend ($28,000 annually) + accommodation
- Applicants for all Rome Prize Fellowships, except those applying for the National Endowment for the Humanities post-doctoral fellowship.
- Must be United States citizens at the time of the application.
- Graduate students in the humanities may apply only for pre-doctoral fellowships only if they are ABD.
- Previous winners of the Rome Prize are not eligible to re-apply.
