As one of the largest non-governmental funders for those starting their careers in epilepsy research, AES is committed to developing the next generation of epilepsy investigators. ” The funded programs support research trainees, fellows, and newly independent investigators working across the full spectrum of epilepsy research, from basic science to translational to clinical research.
Early career clinical researchers may also be eligible for additional funding opportunities offered by our partner organizations with funding or administrative support from AES.

Applicants must:
- Be matriculating in a full-time doctoral (Ph.D.) program in a field relevant to epilepsy research with an academic career focus.
- Have a defined research plan and access to institutional resources to conduct the proposed project.
- Have a qualified mentor(s) with expertise to supervise and provide guidance on epilepsy related research.
- Have not previously been awarded an American Epilepsy Society or an Epilepsy Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship.
- U.S. citizenship is not required; however, all research must be conducted in the U.S.
