Folger Institute Research Long-Term Fellowships

Deadline: 12/01/2022

The Folger Institute will offer five, semi-residential long-term fellowships at $70,000 for the 2023-2024 academic year (approximately $7,777 per month, for a standard period of 9 months). These fellowships are designed to support full-time scholarly work on significant research projects that draw on the strengths of the Folger’s collections and programs.

Please note, for the 2023-24 fellowship year, long-term fellowships will be off-site for fall 2023 and onsite only in the spring of 2024. In their applications, scholars must describe how they will use the offsite portion of their fellowship in the fall of 2023 as well as what they plan to research in the spring semester in residence. Scholars may choose to visit other archives and libraries or use the fall semester to engage in any combination of the following full-time: research with online collections, as well as writing and editing as it relates to their proposed project.

Duration

Nine months

Funding

$70,000

Eligibility

Scholars must hold a terminal degree in their field in order to be eligible for a long-term fellowship.

Ph.D. candidates (ABD) are welcome to apply. However, the majority of Folger fellowships require applicants to hold the Ph.D. by the time they begin their fellowship. For example, if you apply for a fellowship in the fall of 2023, but plan to defend in May of 2024 and take up your fellowship in July of 2024 (or any time after July), then you qualify to apply.
