Google US/Canada PhD Fellowship Program
Google PhD Fellowships directly support graduate students as they pursue their PhD, as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor. Please see Google’s FAQ for more details on regional eligibility and specifics of the award.
The Google US/Canada PhD Fellowship Program recognizes outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science and related disciplines. Google will award approximately 15 fellowships from among the following topical areas:
- Algorithms, Optimizations, & Markets
- Computational Neuroscience
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Machine Learning
- Machine Perception, Speech Technology, & Computer Vision
- Mobile Computing
- Natural Language Processing (including Information Retrieval & Extraction)
- Privacy & Security
- Programming Technology & Software Engineering
- Quantum Computing
- Structured Data & Database Management
- Systems & Networking
Duration
2 years with possible 3rd year extension
Funding
The award provides:
- $34,000 annual stipend (paid over 9 months of the academic year).
- Full coverage of tuition and fees.
- Opportunity to work with a Google Research Mentor.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a full-time doctoral student pursuing research in one of the topical areas listed above.
- Be in at least their 3rd year of a PhD program by the fall semester or quarter of the year when the fellowship begins.
- Remain an active, full-time student in a PhD program during at least two academic years of the award or forfeit award.
- Be nominated by their department.
- Students that are already supported by a comparable industry award are not eligible.
