Life Sciences Research Foundation- Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Deadline: 10/01/2021

Since 1983, the Life Sciences Research Foundation (LSRF) has funded nearly 650 outstanding postdoctoral fellows in all areas of the life sciences, and raised more than $60 million from generous industries, foundations and individuals to support this effort.

We believe that discoveries and application of innovations in biology for the public’s good depends upon the training and support of the highest quality young scientists. Every year our selection committee identifies the top 5% of applicants from an international pool of nearly 900 postdoctoral applicants. Once chosen, the LSRF solicits individuals, companies and foundations for the funds to support these young scientists at a critical juncture of their training for the three-year award period. The number of awards depends entirely on our fundraising efforts that year. LSRF does not have an endowment or existing pool of funds.

Duration

Three years

Funding

$201,000

The total award amount effective August 2021 is $201,000 ($67,000/year). The awardee’s salary/stipend total is $171,000 ($57,000/year) and a research allowance of $30,000 ($10,000/year) is provided.

Eligibility

The award is open to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens.

U.S. citizens are eligible to work in any geographic location. Non-U.S. citizens must work in a U.S. laboratory to be eligible for an award.

You must have your PhD or MD degree by the award activation date of August 1st each year. We encourage graduate students to apply before defending their thesis, however, if your project is selected for funding, you must have your PhD or MD degree by the time the award is activated on August 1st.

You must complete your postdoctoral training in a lab different from that of your graduate (thesis) lab.

Applicants must apply within 5 years of receiving their PhD or MD degree (whichever was awarded later). If you have held a PhD or MD degree for more than 5 years at the application deadline of October 1, you are not eligible to apply.
