Mitacs-Elevate Canada Program – Postdoctoral Fellowship
The program allows postdoctoral fellows to undertake an industrially relevant research project at Canadian companies with Canadian university partners. Fellows receive experiential training in R&D directly through their industry-academic research collaboration and leadership training and business acumen through the program’s training curriculum. The fellowship is for two years.

- One-time pre-review of draft proposals: no later than June 27, 2018, at 5 p.m. PT
- Application deadline: July 11, 2018, at 1 p.m. PT
- Results announced: November 2018
- Projects start date: no later than February 6, 2019

Minimum (Canadian) $50,000 salary per year.
Eligibility
- Mitacs Elevate is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international applicants.
- The fellow must be based at a university located in the same province as the partner organization for the duration of the fellowship.
- Supervisor of the fellow must hold a faculty position at a Canadian University and must be eligible to administer tri-council funds.
- Postdoctoral fellows may apply for Mitacs Elevate fellowship if their date of graduation from a Ph.D. program is no more than 5 years prior to the proposed start date of the research project. Exceptions must be approved in advance of proposal submission.
- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or be able to demonstrate that they will have obtained their Ph.D. by the project start date.
- Applicants must hold a postdoctoral fellowship status at their intended host institution by the fellowship start date and for the entire duration of the fellowship.
- Fellows must not have been employed for more than six months in an R&D position outside the university after receipt of their doctoral degree.
- Fellows must not have received an offer of employment from the partner organization except an offer of this fellowship or short-term employment of up to six months while awaiting a decision on the fellowship.
- The program is open to researchers in all disciplines and provides support to projects in many sectors. (“Eligible Research” tab of Eligibility Guidelines).
- In some provinces, academic supervisors or universities may be required to contribute (Canadian) $5,000 per year of the fellowship (“Universities” tab of Eligibility Guidelines).
- Elevate is open to both for-profit businesses and not-for-profit (NFP) organizations, such as industry associations, charitable organizations, and economic development organizations. (“Partner Organizations” tab of Eligibility Guidelines).
