National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) – Graduate Scholarships
Scholarships are for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. The following scholarships are available:
- Allison E. Fisher Scholarship for applicants with a record of community service.
- Carole Simpson Scholarship for applicants with a concentration in broadcast who plan to work in television news.
- Dr. Sheila Brooks NABJ Entrepreneur Scholarship for applicants who are aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Larry Whiteside Scholarship for sports journalism.
- Les Payne Founder’s Scholarship for print journalism.
- NABJ Scholarship for applicants with a record for community service and financial need.
- Visual Task Force Scholarship for applicants in visual journalism who have visual journalism experience.
Duration
1 year
Funding
- $2,500 for Brooks, Fisher, Simpson, Founder’s and NAJB scholarships.
- $5,000 plus travel to the NAJB National Conference for the Larry Whiteside Schorlaship.
- $1,500 for Visual Task Force scholarship.
Eligibility
Applicant must:
- Be a current NABJ member.
- Be an American or foreign-born student who is currently enrolled full-time at an accredited college/university in the U.S.
- Be majoring in journalism or a communications-related discipline with the interest of pursuing a journalism career.
- Must meet the cumulative G.P.A. requirement verified on an official transcript.
- Have at least one year of school remaining at the time of the application submission.
- Have a GPA as specified by the individual fellowship.
