Newberry Library / Ecole Nationale des Chartes – Exchange Fellowship
The École Nationale des Chartes Exchange Fellowship allows one PhD candidate to spend a semester abroad at the École Nationale des Chartes in Paris and one affiliate of the École Nationale des Chartes to travel to Chicago to conduct research at the Newberry. The École Nationale des Chartes is the oldest institution in Europe specializing in the archival sciences, including paleography, bibliography, textual editing, and the history of the book.
Fellowships support doctoral student study and research at the École Nationale des Chartes in Paris, the oldest institution in Europe specializing in the archival sciences, including paleography, bibliography, textual editing, and the history of the book. Preference will be given to students attending institutions that are members of the Center for Renaissance Studies Consortium
3 months
- Auditor tuition.
- A portion of living expenses (up to one term).
Applicant:
- Must be enrolled in a PhD program at a U.S. or Canadian university.
- Must have advanced to candidacy before the application deadline, with all graduate coursework, exams, and other relevant requirements completed.
- May be of any nationality.
- Must demonstrate a need for the training available at the École des Chartes.
- Applications are especially encouraged from students who are in the early stage of their dissertation work
