National Research Council (NRC) – Research Associateship Program (RAP) – Postdoctoral Associateships
The National Research Council (NRC) administers competitive graduate, postdoctoral and senior research awards on behalf of 26 U.S. federal research agencies and affiliated institutions with facilities at over 100 locations throughout the U.S. and abroad. Awardees have the opportunity to: conduct independent research in an area compatible with the interests of the sponsoring laboratory, devote full-time effort to research and publication, access the excellent and often unique facilities of the federal research enterprise, and collaborate with leading scientists and engineers at the sponsoring laboratories.
Deadlines every Feb 1, May 1, August 1, November 1.
12 months with renewal for 2nd or 3rd year
$42,000-$80,000 for recent PhD Graduates and graduate entry level stipends start at $30,000, plus health insurance, relocation benefits and allowance for professional travel.
- Applicants must have earned a Ph.D., Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M., or academically equivalent research doctorate before the start of the Associateship.
- Applicants must have held the doctorate for less than five years at the time of application.
- Citizenship requirements for the NRC Research Associateship Program vary depending on the sponsoring federal laboratory. To view agencies which accept foreign nationals, click on the Eligibility and Review Dates Chart.
- Persons with recent prior affiliation with a specific laboratory/agency may not be eligible to apply for a Research Associateship award at that same laboratory/agency.
- Some awards are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check (NAC) or other clearance processes.
