Youth Engagement Intern

STAR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) is a project of the Public Health Institute (PHI) in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). STAR is a Global Health talent hub. Through fellowships, internships, and strategic partnerships, STAR supports building the capacity of diverse global health professionals and organizations at all levels to make inclusive, collaborative, and innovative contributions to global health. STAR participants collaborate in the development of systems and tools that strengthen and sustain the local and global health response.

 

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

USAID provides global technical leadership on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment and monitors the impact of the Agency’s HIV/AIDS programs. Introduction:

The Youth Engagement Intern (Intern) will work within the Youth Branch which is part of the Priority Populations Integration and Rights (PPIR) Division in the Office of HIV/AIDS (OHA) within the Global Health Bureau. OHA has primary responsibility for leading the Agency’s efforts within President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a multibillion, multifaceted approach to combating the disease around the world. The Youth Branch (GH/OHA/PPIR/YTH) provides technical leadership on policies and programs relating to adolescents. The Branch supports USAID field programs to scale up programming addressing youth needs through positive youth development (PYD) and systematic integration of youth engagement for high quality programming across the continuum of HIV prevention, treatment, and support services focusing largely on youth ages 10-24.

 

Duration

ANTICIPATED TIMEFRAME: 6 Months, full-time

Funding

SALARY: $1,868.66 biweekly (exempt, salaried position)

Eligibility
  • Required:
    • Currently enrolled masters or other post-bachelor’s degree candidate or completion of such within the past 12 months.
    • Demonstrated experience in research and analysis, with strong writing skills.
    • Ability to manipulate data and data imagery charts using Excel and web-based applications.
    • This position may require travel. Ability to participate in a field experience, which may involve domestic and/or international travel and overnight stays for up to 2 weeks, pending lifting of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
    • US citizenship or US permanent residency required.
